NY LANDMARKS CONSERVANCY

Services Provided: Tagline Development

Railla Creative developed taglines for the rebranding of the New York Landmarks Conservancy, a trusted and respected voice for preservation laws and policies at every level of government. Working with Suzy Jurist and Associates, we explored the underlying emotion at the heart of NYLC — love.

QUEST TO LEARN 

Services Provided:  Content Strategy and Copywriting

Quest to Learn is an innovative public middle and high school in Manhattan where the curriculum is co-developed with game designers.  Working with Quest middle school parents, Railla Creative provided content strategy and copywriting services that highlighted this novel and innovative approach to education.  Employing open-ended questions, student and teacher testimonials, and press clips, we created a playful, game-like approach to the web site.

FEMINIST CAMP

Services Provided: Social Media Training

Feminist Camp believes in empowering feminists to visualize and pursue their goals. They offer week-long intensives for women in NYC, Seattle and Zambia where campers meet with feminists working on the ground for social change.  For their New York City cohort, Railla Creative led a workshop on using social media to tell your own authentic story.

BARUCH COLLEGE

Services Provided: Social Media Training

Railla Creative was hired to lead a workshop for the communications team at Baruch College (CUNY), one of the top public business schools in the US.  The Baruch team were experts in higher education and writing for their market, but not comfortable communicating in the digital space.  Developing curricula that spoke specifically to the people in the room, our training covered everything from eye-tracking studies, to research on UX best practices for writing online, to analyzing case studies from other colleges and universities.  

THE COLLABORATIVE

Services Provided:  Brand Strategy and Copywriting

Working hand-in-hand with the founder and CEO of The Collaborative, a new psychotherapy practice in Greenwich Village, Railla Creative delivered a toolkit that included everything from brand strategy and story to taglines and web copy.  Our approach was collaborative and open,  discovering together the most authentic way to communicate what it was that makes this practice unique.

CENTER FOR ARTISTIC ACTIVISM

Service Provided: Social Media Training

The C4AA is a nonprofit that works with social justice organizations around the globe.  They have pioneered a practice of mixing arts and activism in ways that drive engagement and results, and equally important, create a sense of 'wow' for everyone involved.   Railla Creative led a social media workshop for the directors of the C4AA and their social media manager.  For this culturally savvy crew,  we eschewed best practices and instead asked them to play a game of make believe.   As a group, we developed several fictional characters that represented their current and potential audience.  The profiles we brainstormed were detailed— names, locations, mottos, binges, playlists, guilty pleasures.  By doing this, the team was able to build empathy for their audience and think about meaningful ways to connect with them.  

ABOUT 

Railla Creative is like a one-woman band with the occasional drummer. In other words, when you hire us you get me.  I am the creative lead on every project, I am on every client call, and I lead every training.  When needed, I have a network of designers, programmers, writers and producers that I call upon.

I have over twenty years of experience telling stories though books, articles, websites, ad campaigns, advertorials, mobile apps, film scripts.

I created the indie website Get Crafty: Making Art Out of Everyday Life and was the author of Get Crafty: Hip Home Ec (Random House).  In 2005, I helped launch etsy.com.

A former creative director and producer at R/GA, I worked on several national campaigns and digital tools for clients including Nike, Walmart, Johnson and Johnson and IBM.

Since 2014, I have been a part-time professor at New York University's Department of Media, Culture and Communication.  I teach courses on "Ad Campaigns" and "Advertising for Social Good."

A lifelong feminist and slow food enthusiast with a BA in Women's Studies and an MA in Food Studies, I seek work that is close to my heart.  With Railla Creative, my focus is on helping small businesses, nonprofits and grassroots organizations tell better stories and employ smarter communications strategies.
